MURAL at 2840 San Bruno Ave SF

Through the San Francisco Arts Commission’s StreetSmARTS program, Zoe created a mural during June 2011. The owner wanted a landscape that would reflect the diversity of the Portola neighborhood.

San Bruno Avenue is very diverse. According to the 2010 U.S. census, the Portola District has increased the Asian population 16% to 60%. Also included are Hispanics, African Americans, Pacific Islanders, Whites and American Indians, so, it was pretty much everyone.  I decided to create a landscape with different medicinal and edible plants from around the world. The research and sketching begins.

I tried different approaches: pen, ink and even pulled the drawing onto the Brushes app on the ipad to play with color.
